Pilot TCHC Training Programme 2016-2018
We will specifically be exploring the topic of Retail Planning, including Planning Authority Retail Strategies, Retail Impact Assessment, Retail Capacity Studies, Vacancy Dynamics, and more…! Future Analytics Consulting Ltd. (FAC) has been engaged in many retail-related projects, strategies and studies across Ireland and throughout Europe in recent years, and we have been undertaking town and village health checks, and retail strategies, in Ireland recently.
The Action Plan for Rural Development, launched in January 2017 (“Realising Our Rural Potential” and viewable here), seeks to build on the huge asset of Ireland rural communities, and sets out a significant number of Actions with assigned responsibilities to Government Departments and other actors. Some of these actions specifically support the ongoing work of the Heritage Council who, in collaboration with the Irish Planning Institute (IPI), Irish Landscape Institute (ILI), Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and some Higher Education Authorities (HEAs), are working on a trans-disciplinary National Town Centre Health Check (TCHC) Training Programme. Other key participants include community champions, stakeholders and other representatives.
The aim of the training programme is to raise awareness, understanding and appreciation of the critical role that historic town centres play and the wide-ranging impacts that their vitality and viability have on overall socio-economic, environmental and cultural growth and development, and on quality of life for citizens and visitors alike. The ‘pilot’ aims to develop an innovative town centre-led retail, cultural heritage and tourism baseline, which will be recognised internationally as a best practice collaborative development model for regeneration.
