FAC was commissioned to provide ongoing consultancy services and expert analysis data to the Mid-West Regional Authority (MWRA) in defining the sustainability of freight logistics operations within a number of predetermined Western European Gateways. The main focus of this assistance has involved the design of the WEASTFLOWS Sustainable Gateway Self-Assessment Questionnaire, which will evaluate the sustainability of freight logistics operations within each of the six WEASTFLOWS Gateways.
Following on from the completion of a questionnaire by each of the Gateways, FAC collated and analysed the resulting data, using it as the basis of the Gateway Characterisation Report, with a report being produced for each individual Gateway. This report presented the key findings of the questionnaires alongside a number of policy recommendations which were intended to enhance the sustainability of freight logistics within that Gateway.
The final stage of the project saw the design and implementation of a collaborative pilot, involving a small number of WEASTFLOWS Gateways. This pilot stage involved the trialling of a number of initiatives developed from the recommendations of the relevant Gateway Characterisation Reports. FAC, alongside the MWRA provided ongoing support to the Gateway partners involved in the pilot and have assisted in the post-pilot assessment, which will be used to evaluate the results and provide further recommendations for future actions.
