FAC at STREST Workshop in Ljubljana
STREST is an EU-funded project that has developed tools to reduce the impact of natural and manmade disasters on Critical Infrastructure (CI: systems and networks such as transport and electricity that enable our societies to function).
Dr Hynes presented at the event about the INTACT project, which has studied the effects of extreme weather events on critical infrastructure in countries around Europe. This complements and enhances the research undertaken by STREST and other partner projects, such as INFRARISK and RAIN who were also present at the workshop.
The workshop was a showcase event designed to share the results of the project and illustrate how they will lead to the standardisation and implementation of stress tests for critical infrastructure. The results relate to natural extreme events like earthquakes and flooding and apply to a broad selection of CIs, from petrochemical plants to port infrastructures.
