Submissions Invited for Meath Council Review Plan
Members of the public have been invited to forward their submissions to the Planning Authority of Meath County Council, for Stage 1 of their Development Plan review. The three-stage review process, which began in December 2016 will run for approximately another two years.
The Planning Authority has published an issues paper (found here), to provide background and to inform those making submissions of the themes and topics of interest, which include:
- economic development;
- the environment;
- transportation; and
- social development.
Comments being sought at this initial stage are preferably to be strategic in nature, to guide the ‘bigger picture’ development of County Meath. While submissions in relation to zoning will not be accepted or considered until later stages, high-level submissions can be made that may contextualise and support such future requests.
Noteworthy is the Planning Authority’s interest in promoting the urban centres of Enfield and Stamullen from their current positions as ‘small towns’ to ‘moderate sustainable growth towns’ within the County’s settlement hierarchy. This would result in future population and employment growth being concentrated in these towns.
Other key themes being considered are economic development, enterprise and employment. The ‘Economic Development Strategy for County Meath 2014-2022’ seeks to promote the County as an attractive location in which to invest and do business. The Planning Authority has illustrated its willingness to support this, facilitating development by rezoning key sites in the County’s urban centres.
The review of the County Development Plan gives all those with an interest in the County a chance to have their say in relation to defining its future.
Submissions may be made via hard copy or online before 3:30 pm on Friday 17 February 2017.
