Failte Ireland Development and Funding of Marina and Berthing Facilities
The Review of Tourism Policy Regarding the Development and Funding of Marina and Berthing Facilities in Ireland evaluated marina operational models across Ireland in the context of international best practice in developing and funding these facilities. In order to adequately understand the policy and user context, extensive supporting interviews and qualitative surveys were undertaken with local communities and industry stakeholders. FAC engaged Fáilte Ireland, an Expert Forum and key representatives and stakeholders in the marine leisure industry to identify six domestic and six international case studies to assist in identifying areas of best practice and to elicit insights into the wider marine tourism industry.
These case studies provided examples of local, national and international best practice regarding operation, innovation and community engagement, and were used to derive several key benchmarking lessons on the operation of the applicable bureaucratic, policy and public dissemination frameworks which apply to marine-related tourism.
