FAC Promotes Security Standardisation at Boosting Innovation Through Standards Event in Brussels

Last Wednesday, FAC was delighted to participate in the Boosting Innovation Through Standards Event, a high-level 1-day event aiming to boost the market uptake of innovation and research outcomes by using standardisation as an enabler. The event was hosted by the European standardisation organisations CEN and CENELEC who invited leading experts in innovation and standardisation to present their experiences in linking these two worlds and highlight how they can mutually benefit each other. The event, held in Brussels, was an initiative of the BRIDGIT2 project, co-financed by the EC and EFTA, seeking to bridge the gap between Research, Innovation and Standardisation Community. Two of FAC’s current Horizon 2020 projects – Stair4Security and FORESEE – were showcased during the day.

FAC took part in the event through its work with the Stair4Security project, a two-year Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Commission to develop an expert platform setting a mechanism of coordination of research related to standardisation activities in the security sector. FAC’s Data Analytics and Project Management experts, together with TFC Research and Innovation Limited, lead the Communication and Dissemination Work Package, in addition to facilitating crucial public engagement for this important H2020 project.

Throughout the day, FAC’s Research Coordinator for European Projects, Anna Yankulova, presented the main objectives of the project and promoted the upcoming Stair4Security/NO-FEAR Joint Conference on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNe) and Disaster Risk Resilience (DRR) for Standardisation and Best Practice Engagement, set to take place on Saturday 23rd November in Rome.

The Stair4Security project has received funding from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No 853853. The main goal of STAIR4SECURITY is to create a collaborative platform as a single entry point for information on the security sector stemming primarily from research activities to allow better governance of standardisation needs in DRR and CBRNe sectors. The platform will be practitioner/policymaker driven. It aims to permit a better overview of current and new projects at national, European and international level. It also sets out to ensure swifter coordination between all stakeholders and to respond more efficiently and timely to critical needs by following an agreed strategic vision and identified priorities.
