FAC Shortlisted for the 2019/2020 National Planning Awards

Future Analytics Consulting is honoured to be shortlisted for the 2019/2020 National Planning Awards, under the Planning and Economic Development category. ‘Rejuvenating Ireland’s Small Town Centres – A Call to Action’ was commissioned by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and has been on an important journey since FAC coordinated, researched and published the study. We are ‘celebrating excellence and innovation in Irish Planning’ alongside other excellent shortlisted projects from Local Governments.

The report calls for the establishment of Irish Towns Partnership, in order to help fill the void due to dissolution of town councils and provide local leadership. It further elucidates proactive approaches to restore buildings for residential use and tackle the problem of vacant buildings. Case studies from towns such as Westport, Clonakilty and Naas were presented in the report as these towns delivered successful outcomes for the local community through collaborative efforts involving all stakeholders.

Stephen M. Purcell, Director of Future Analytics Consulting and author of this report, stated that ‘it is a crucial time for fresh initiatives from local authorities to facilitate community empowerment and collaboration right across the country’. It can be concluded that its upon the local authorities to drive innovative rejuvenation initiatives in towns within their jurisdiction.

The project included a series of events throughout the country to engage further and find solutions, policy interventions and other initiatives to reinvigorate the heart of Ireland’s small towns.
