Launch of the Limerick Tourism Development Strategy 2019-2023

FAC are delighted to see Limerick City and County Council launch the Limerick Tourism Development Strategy 2019-2023. The strategy was prepared by FAC in association with Louise Browne Associates and Deirdre Black Associates. The purpose of the strategy is to revitalise the tourism sector in Limerick, capture key opportunities that exist for growth, and highlight priority action areas to unlock the significant benefits that a thriving tourism industry can bring.

The strategy was developed following a detailed analysis of the county’s tourism offer. This involved a wide range of sources including: Fáilte Ireland, Limerick City and County Council, tourism attractions, and direct conversations with tourism product providers and stakeholders across the county. Four public workshops were held across the county – Adare, Templeglatine, Kilmallock and Limerick City.

The review of current performance and growth areas, the wide-ranging consultation process, the importance of a place centred approach, and the vision and objectives for tourism in Limerick were instrumental in defining an appropriate strategic direction to guide the sector to 2023. The centrepiece of the strategy are the four tourism themes identified to drive forward the sector and unlock the potential of Limerick. These are designed to optimise the potential of the waterways (Into the Blue), activities (Energy Unleashed), heritage (Vibrant History), arts and culture (Alive and Kicking) and actions/initiative are proposed to bring these to life. The themes are broad enough in scope to appeal to key audiences and also build on and optimise the existing assets of Limerick. The strategy contains clear targets for growth, focussing on increasing tourism revenue and employment in the county.

Management structures, a roadmap for delivery and a monitoring framework to ensure the successful delivery of the thematic actions are also set out.  FAC graphic designers worked alongside our planning team in preparing a visually impressive and professionally packaged draft report.
