The National Planning Framework 2040 is launched
The National Planning Framework 2040 was launched with National Development Plan 2018-2027 under the umbrella of ‘Project Ireland 2040’ in Sligo this afternoon by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Government. The €116 billion plan is designed “to re-imagine Ireland and prepare for the future” and is the first time that Planning & Investment have been linked with 4 new funds totaling €4bn for rural & urban growth, climate action & innovation.
The National Planning Framework envisions a country with an extra one million people and 660,000 more people at work, with three quarters of new growth will be outside Dublin, and 50% of the projected population growth planned for our towns, villages and rural areas and 50% for our cities. The plan now includes Regional Centres such as Athlone and Sligo as well as the 5 cities.
Implementation is to be through 10 shared goals:
Enhanced Regional Accessibility
Strengthened Rural Economies and Communities
A Strong Economy, supported by Enterprise, Innovation and Skills
High-Quality International Connectivity
Enhanced Amenity and Heritage
Transition to a Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Society
Sustainable Management of Water and other Environmental Resources
