October 2017 Issue of ‘Security Europe’ – Reflecting on the 8th Meeting of the European Commission ‘Community of Users’ on Secure, Safe and Resilient Societies
This month (October 2017) the ‘Security Europe’ newsletter features an article on the 8th Meeting of the European Commission ‘Community of Users’ on Secure, Safe and Resilient Societies held in September in Brussels. In the article, Mr. Patrick Stephenson (Deputy Editor and Policy Analyst at Security Europe) provides his perspective of the event. Quoting Dr. William Hynes of FAC, the article argues that large scale disasters continue to increase in frequency and are now ‘happening annually’. Thus, the question of how to make European societies more resilient in the face of emergencies and crisis events has become ever more urgent. Dr. Hynes was a speaker at the event, providing his experience of coordinating H2020 funded project RESILENS (Realising European ReSiliencE for CritIcaL INfraStructure), which grapples with this important question and seeks to aid urban decision makers and infrastructure operators in enhancing the resilience of Critical Infrastructure (C.I). More information on RESILENS can be found at www.resilens.eu and www.futureanalytics.ie. You can subscribe to Security Europe at: http://www.securityeurope.info/subscribe/.
