Prof. William Hynes Presents at Dublin City Local Economic and Community Plan Briefing Event on ‘Socio-Economic Overview of Dublin’

Last week, Prof. William Hynes, Managing Director of Future Analytics Consulting Ltd., presented at the Dublin City Local Economic and Community Plan Briefing Event on ‘Socio-Economic Overview of Dublin’.  The event was hosted by the Dublin City Local Community Development Committee and the Economic Development and Enterprise Strategic Policy Committee – Dublin City Council.

Prof. William Hynes illustrated a vital review of the socio-economic trends in Dublin City (2011-2016) on key areas of population change, age structure, household composition, educational attainment, employment, affluence and deprivation. Crucial points of discussion at the session pertained to ‘How Dublin was supporting integrated economic and community development?’ and ‘What were the key changes in the socio-economic profile of the city?’. The Dublin City Local Economic and Community Plan (LCEP) 2016-2021 set out 12 high-level goals for the six-year lifetime of the Plan. These priorities and goals were set through consultation with members of the public, local community organisations and businesses and with elected representatives of Dublin City Council.

Drawing on his extensive experience with leading significant critical infrastructure planning and development projects, and providing expert advice to public and private sector clients in areas of strategic spatial planning, infrastructure planning among others, Prof. William Hynes talked about current and future trends of change, tackling upcoming physical and social challenges and impacts faced by Dublin City due to  population growth, housing demand, changing nature of occupancy, increasing diversity, trends in household formation and other such aspects.

Trends and impacts analysis assisted identification of how different drivers of socio-economic change have influenced demand over the past decade giving clear indication of direction in which demand will continue to advance towards in the coming decade. Critical insights were reiterated with the goal of enhancing planning for Dublin City beyond 2020.

These insights come in light of FAC’s active involvement in planning, strategy and development projects, both national and pan-European. FAC is also an active consortium partner in a suite of other critical infrastructure, resilience and planning project funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.
